Terms of use

Last updated: 15 September 2026

These terms cover the MenuBuddy iPhone app and this website. The service is run by Szymon Dziedzic (ChochoApps). Contact: the form on the Contact page.

1. What MenuBuddy is

MenuBuddy reads a photo of a menu, translates it, scores the dishes against the food profile you provide and writes sentences for the staff. Language models do the reading and translating.

2. Important: this is help, not a guarantee

MenuBuddy is not a medical device and is not dietary advice. Translations, allergen verdicts and calorie ranges are approximate and can be wrong — menus are often incomplete and models make mistakes.

If you have an allergy or intolerance that threatens your health, always confirm the ingredients with the staff before ordering. That is exactly why the app writes you a sentence asking about the allergen.

3. Account

To use paid features — including the free starter pack — you sign in with Apple or Google. The starter pack is granted once per account, for the life of that account. You delete the account yourself: Profile → Narrator voice and settings → Delete account.

4. Subscription

If you are a consumer buying digital content delivered immediately, agreeing to immediate performance means you lose the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal. This does not affect your right to complain about a faulty service.

5. How you may not use the app

A breach may end in the account being blocked. If we block an account with a paid subscription through no fault of yours, we refund the unused part of the period.

6. Content and rights

The app, its name, icon and design belong to the author. Dish photos come from Wikimedia Commons under their own licences and are shown for illustration only. The menu's content belongs to the restaurant; we process it only in order to translate it for you.

7. Availability

We try to keep the service running but do not promise uninterrupted operation. An expensive feature may be switched off temporarily — for instance when the model provider is down. Features covered by a paid subscription are not switched off without reason, and for a longer outage we are liable under general rules.

8. Liability

We are liable for damages under Polish civil law. We are not liable for the consequences of decisions taken solely on the basis of a translation or a dish verdict without confirming the ingredients with the staff — point 2 says so plainly.

9. Complaints and disputes

Send complaints through the form on the Contact page. We reply within 14 days. Polish law applies; this does not deprive you of protection under the law of your country of residence. Consumers in the EU may use the European Commission's ODR platform.

10. Apple's terms

An app downloaded from the App Store is also covered by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. Apple is not a party to this agreement and is not responsible for the app, but may enforce it as a third-party beneficiary.

11. Changes

We give at least 14 days' notice of changes to these terms in the app. If a change does not suit you, you can turn off subscription renewal.
